Johnstone Burgh travel to Barrfields Park this Wednesday evening (23rd September) to face Largs Thistle in the Scottish Lowland League West.
In the previous meeting between the two clubs at Barrfields Park (Saturday 29th November 2025), the Burgh ran out 2-1 winners in dramatic fashion.
Danny O’Neill gave the away side a 1-0 half-time lead before Jamie Martin equalised for Largs Thistle early in the second half. A last kick of the game penalty in the 7th minute of added time from Blair Rossiter claimed the three points for the Keanie Park side.
Largs Thistle FC were founded in 1889. The Theesel won The Scottish Junior Cup in 1994, when they beat Glenafton Athletic 1-0 in front of 8,000 fans at Ibrox Stadium.
The club have also won the SJFA West Super League First Division in 2009, the West Region Ayrshire League in 2005, the West of Scotland Cup in 1991, as well as several other regional cup competions throughout their history.
Barrfields Park was opened on 21st July 1930, and has been Largs Thistle's home ever since. The spectator capacity is 4,500.
The playing surface was upgraded to an all-weather 3G pitch in August 2012. The ground is an approximately 15 minute walk from Largs train station, and an approximately 35 minute drive from Keanie Park.
The Theesel finished fourth in the WoSFL Premier Division during the 2025/26 season. They also reached the Scottish Communities Cup Final, but lost 2-1 to Auchinleck Talbot at Broadwood Stadium.
Largs Thistle currently sit in fifth in the Scottish Lowland League West table with 19 points from nine matches played.
In their last league fixture, the Barrfields Park side beat Auchinleck Talbot 1-0 at Beechwood Park last Wednesday (16th September), thanks to a Will Sewell strike in the 51st minute.
Largs manager Stuart Davidson's side defeated Coupar Angus JFC 5-0 at Barrfields Park, in their most recent match, in the second round of The Scottish Communities Cup last Saturday (19th September).
Johnstone Burgh currently sit in eighth place on the Scottish Lowland League West table on 15 points from eight matches played.
In their last league fixture, Burgh beat Troon 2-1 at Portland Park last Wednesday (16th September), thanks to a Max Kerr double.
Burgh manager Stevie Farrell's side come into the match on the back of a fine 5-0 win against New Elgin JFC at Nicol-Togneri Park in the second round of The Scottish Communities Cup last Saturday (19th September).
