Johnstone Burgh welcome Renfrew FC to Keanie Park this Saturday, 26th September, for their 10th Scottish Lowland League West fixture of the season.
In the last meeting between the two clubs at Keanie Park, Renfrew came out on top, winning 3-2 on Wednesday 15th April in the WoSFL Premier Division. Goals from Aiden Malcolm and David McCallum gave The Frew a 2-0 half-time lead. The Burgh came roaring back in the final part of the game, with goals from Broque Watson and Jude Cummins getting the home side back on level terms. It was all in vain, though, as Aiden Malcolm won the game for Renfrew with a 96th-minute goal.
Renfrew FC were founded on 6th May 1912. The club played their home matches at Western Park for around 103 years before moving to New Western Park in 2015. The spectator capacity is 1,000 and the playing surface is artificial.
The Frew won the Scottish Junior Cup in the 2000/01 season, when they defeated Carnoustie Panmure on penalties in front of over 5,000 fans at Firhill Stadium. The club also won the 2015/16 Central First Division and the WoSFL Second Division in the 2022/23 season. Renfrew FC have won several other regional honours in their earlier years, including the Glasgow Dryburgh Cup on two occasions, the Central League Cup twice, and ten Renfrewshire Junior Cups between 1916 and 1966.
Renfrew FC gained promotion to the Scottish Lowland League West by finishing 10th in the WoSFL Premier Division last season.
It was a tough start to the season for Renfrew, but Jimmy Quigley’s men come into Saturday’s match on a three-game winning streak. Wins over Pollok, Vale of Clyde, and most recently a 3-0 home win against Beith on Wednesday evening (23rd September) have got The Frew’s season back on track. Renfrew currently sit in 14th place in the Scottish Lowland League West table, on 7 points after 9 games played.
Johnstone Burgh come into the match in good form despite Wednesday evening’s (23rd September) agonising 1-0 defeat to Largs Thistle at Barrfields Park, Largs. Prior to that loss, Stevie Farrell’s men had been unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions, with a record of five wins and one draw.
