Johnstone Burgh 2-1 Pollok

Johnstone Burgh 2-1 Pollok

Kyle Lafferty Scoring The Winner

Johnstone Burgh got back to winning ways, as they came from behind with 10 men to beat Pollok 2-1.

Josh Howe had the first chance of the match with just over 60 seconds on the clock. The Pollok forward tested Calum Law in the Burgh net, but the keeper was equal to it and parried the ball away for a corner to the visitors. This was the first in a succession of corners for the away side, one of which seeing Law make another good save. After Law had punched away a corner, it fell to Scott Forrester, whose header had Law scrambling across his goal and clawed it away and out for another corner.

Burgh's first chance came in the 9th minute when Darren Christie beat former Burgh left back Ryan Wallace to Del Esplin's lobbed throughball and found himself one on one with Lok keeper Ben Fry. However, Wallace was able to get back and force Christie to take an extra touch, narrowing his angle, and Christie got too much on his shot and hooked it wide.

Ross Davidson had a chance on 14 minutes, but his long range effort went just over the bar.

Pollok almost took the lead two minutes later through a chance out of nothing. A high ball forward from the halfway saw Danny O'Neill head it back to his keeper, and Law needed lightning reflexes to prevent the ball going past him. The ball fell right into the path of Adam Forde but, thankfully for The Burgh, his reflexes weren't as quick as Law's and the ball ran away from the visitors' top scorer.

The away side were getting closer to a goal and they had another excellent chance when Josh Tran nipped in between Fraser Mullen and Danny O'Neill and was one on one with Law. Tran poked it beyond Law as he attempted to round the Burgh keeper, but got just too much on it and it went out for a goal kick.

In the 24th minute, Pollok struggled to clear a corner and Cammy Eadie hooked it back into the box to Max Kerr, who took a superb touch to control it, cut inside onto his left foot and struck at goal but Declan Black closed him down and deflected it into the side netting. Kerr took the resulting corner, finding Ciaran Diver who headed just over.

On 32 minutes, the visitors had the ball in the net. Lee Duncanson's free kick just inside his own half was flicked on to Forde, whose fantastic overhead kick flew past Law into the net. However, the linesman had raised his flag and the goal was ruled out for a marginal offside.

Forde had another chance a minute later as he pounced on a loose ball and fired a low strike at goal, but Law made the save at the near post to keep the scores level.

Nine minutes before half time, Burgh had their best chance of the match so far after Diver had done brilliantly to win the ball from Duncanson. Diver ran with it into the box before laying it off to Christie, who the gave it to Davidson. Davidson struck it first time, forcing an excellent save from Fry.

It should've been 1-0 to the visitors a minute later when Howe beat the offside trap and was one on one with Law, with Forde wide open in the middle. However, Howe opted to go for goal himself and scuffed his shot, not troubling the Burgh keeper.

It was 1-0 to the away side on 43 minutes when they were awarded a questionable free kick 30 yards from goal. Forde took the free kick. Although Law got a fingertip to it, he couldn't prevent Forde scoring a great goal as it flew into the top corner.

Diver had a chance to level the game on the stroke of half time when Forrester missed his clearance and the ball ran through to the Burgh striker. Diver attempted to lob the keeper from about 20 yards but didn't get enough underneath it and Fry made a comfortable save.

Burgh had the ball in the net less than 60 seconds after the restart. Fraser Mullen's corner went straight in, but referee Regan Wallace had seen something nobody else in the ground had seen and disallowed the goal.

There was more controversy in the 50th minute when Max Kerr was sent off. Kerr had run onto an aerial throughball from Cammy Eadie, and as he attempted to cross, Forrester cut across him in a desperate attempt to prevent the cross and as he did so, he was caught by the Burgh winger and the referee had no hesitation showing a straight red, much to the disbelief of the Burgh players, coaches and fans.

Following the sending off, the game settled down and failed to match the tempo of the first half.

On the hour mark, the visitors had a header cleared off the line from a corner.

With second half chances few and far between, the away side looked as though they were heading comfortably towards three points. But that all changed in the final six minutes.

On 84 minutes, Burgh were awarded a free kick in an almost identical spot to where Adam Forde had scored in the first half. Up stepped Kyle Lafferty who kept it low but bent it beautifully around the wall and beat Fry into the bottom corner.

As the clock ticked into stoppage time, Malky McDonald's long range was closed down and fell to Stuart McCann, who laid it off to Lafferty who won a corner after his shot was deflected wide. Noah Young took the corner, finding Lafferty, whose header went in off the post to give ten-man Burgh three points.
