Johnstone Burgh made it four wins in a row as we started our defence of the Scottish Communities Cup.
The visitors had a few early chances, the best of which fell to Max Kerr in the 13th minute after Kian Gilday's cross found the Burgh winger who volleyed it goalwards, but Michael Mullen pulled off a great save at the near post.
Following the early pressure, the hosts found their way into the match creating one or two chances for themselves without really threatening, whilst Mullen stung the palms of the Girvan keeper.
On 34 minutes, Max Kerr came close to opening the scoring when he was played through one on one but Mullen was quick off his line and made the save.
A minute later, Kyle Lafferty had a chance after Gilday cut it back but his effort was saved.
Five minutes before the break, Max Kerr collected a superb cross-field ball from Rossiter, played a one-two with Ian McShane then skipped between two defenders before unleashing a powerful strike from the edge of the box, which flew past Mullen into the net to put The Burgh ahead.
Half Time: 0-1
The first real chance of the second half fell to the away side on 51 minutes. Kerr squared it Rossiter but his shot was straight at Mullen.
Two minutes later, a beautiful throughball from McShane found Lafferty, who struck it first time from about 12 yards out into roof of the net, giving Mullen no chance.
On the hour mark, the hosts should have got a goal back through Ryan Corkin. After he beat the offside trap, he ran onto a long ball over the top and faced Scullion one on one. Danny O'Neill did brilliantly to track back and put him under enough pressure, forcing Corkin to scuff his shot wide.
The game started to fizzle out, with the game seemingly done. The Seasiders, though, refused to give up and had a chance with 15 minutes to play. A fierce strike by substitue Thembalami Elton Moyo caught Cammy Eadie in the face and went out for a corner.
Burgh had the ball in the net for a third time in the 83rd minute, but it was wrongly disallowed for offside. After the home side failed to clear a Burgh corner, it was crossed back into the box by Stuart Faulds to Eadie who headed it back into the danger area for Leon Murphy to head in. But, despite Murphy coming from behind the ball and being played onside by two defenders, the linesman raised his flag to disallow the goal. Thankfully, it's not a decision that would cost us and we saw out the game to finish 2-0.
