Johnstone Burgh travel to Broadwood Stadium on Saturday 12th September to face Cumbernauld Colts in the Scottish Lowland League West in what will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs.
Cumbernauld Colts were formed in 1969. They faced a challenging period in the 1990s, with several of their teams disbanding, but the club was rebranded in 1999 and built its way back up to what it is today.
"The Colts" play their home matches at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld, which has a capacity of 8,086, is all-seated and has an artificial 3G playing surface.
In 2015, the club was awarded full membership of the Scottish FA and was elected to the Scottish Lowland Football League. Cumbernauld Colts won the Lowland League Cup on two occasions; firstly in 2018, when they beat Selkirk 3-1 at Netherdale, Galashiels, then again in 2026, when they beat Gala Fairydean Rovers 3-2 at Newtown Park, Bo'ness.
Colts had a solid 2025/2026 season, finishing a very respectable sixth place in the Scottish Lowland Football League. "The Colts" have had a difficult start to their debut season in the new Scottish Lowland League West, with tough fixtures against the likes of Auchinleck Talbot, Largs Thistle, Kilwinning Rangers and Troon in their opening seven matches.
The club currently sit in 12th position in the table, on six points after seven matches played. Cumbernauld Colts were winless in their first six matches, recording three defeats and three draws, but they finally ended the winless run with an impressive 3-1 win away to Troon at Portland Park on Saturday 29th August.
In their most recent match, the club suffered a 3-0 home defeat to League Two side Kelty Hearts in the KDM Evolution Trophy league phase on Tuesday 8th September. Despite that loss, head coach John Doyle will likely believe his team can continue their recent league form and get something from this Saturday's match.
Johnstone Burgh come into this weekend's match full of confidence as we sit in eighth place in the table, on 11 points after six matches played.
Since losing 3-1 to Pollok at Newlandsfield just over three weeks ago, the Keanie Park side have won our last three matches. The most recent victory was a routine 2-0 win over WoSFL Division 3 side Saint Anthony's at McKenna Park in the second round of the South Region Challenge Cup last Saturday (5th September).
The draw for the third round of the South Region Challenge Cup will premiere at 7pm this Thursday evening (10th September) on the South Challenge Cup YouTube channel - Johnstone Burgh will be ball number 45 in the draw.
